Running in the SUNSHINE :)

Yesterday morning I went into the basement to run 10 miles on the treadmill. McNaughton training is here! The race is only 8 weeks out. It was boring. The iPod podcasts and music didn't excite me much. Topaz whined at my feet, sad that we weren't on the trail.

Yesterday afternoon it was 7F!! Oh Wow! 7 ABOVE zero. The sun was out, the wind was whipping but I was heading for the woods. It was wonderful...to feel the sun on my face, to feel the wind in my hair. I wasn't covered with material from head to toe. I loved pulling my neck gaitor OFF of my face and onto my neck. Oh, how wonderful. Oh Joy! We ran 10 miles, AND it was DAYLIGHT when we finished. It's been a long time.

Spring will be here soon :)

Julie, amazing and very inspirational blog. I wish you luck in all of your 100's coming up. If you get a chance, please visit my running web site, Faithful Soles. I have a categorized and searchable Running Blog Database on there and would appreciate it if you would link your blog to it. I have several other ultra-marathoners on there, and at least one or two others I can think of that do 100 milers. I also have my own blog, but most of my information is on the main web site. Thanks and continued good luck in your training.

What kind of snowshoes do you use for training? Are they meant for running? When you wear them, do you use running shoes or some sort of boot?

I live in a VERY wintery place & I'm thinking of snowshoes. I'm not really sure where to go with them. They're quite expensive, so I need some advice before buying.

Janice, I wear Northern Lights, purchased online. They ship out of WI. I have had them for 4 years. Broke a crampon at last year's marathon. I shipped the broken one to them, they fixed it and shipped back for $5. Very happy with them! I wear Gortex Inov 8 Flyroc Trail Shoes with wool socks and a pair of gaitors. Keep my feetsies warm. The snowshoes were about $200 I believe.

your blog inspires me. You're great.
I grew up in LA by the beach and moved to Texas 33 years ago and thought I moved to a place that had winter. My in-laws all live in MN and WI. I just read your blog to my wife who replied," you'd have to shoot me to get me to go back there." Keep on, I'll look in from time to time.
