Tonight I noticed that Troy's baseball game didn't begin until 630; he was required to be at the field at 545 for a pre-game practice. Well, the boy's youth group is finished until next fall, this meant I could hit run club. Wow, go and see my friends..run 5 miles..enjoy the sun and the 81F. Yahoo Mountain Dew. Then be able to head over to the fields, meet up with Steve and watch Troy play baseball. Great deal.
As I was coming up to the group I told Ken how happy I was with the heat, he asked if I like to run in this stuff? Yeah, I like to do everything in this stuff! I told him I'd remind myself of that when I was sucking wind on the other side of the lake.
Yeah. I was. I was sucking wind. My mind may love the warm temperatures but my body wasn't liking it. Tonight was the first warm weather run of the season for me. It was on the black asphalt, no shade and nary a breeze. Definitely not the tree covered, soft trail that I've been running on lately. I was hot.
Kurt has Superior 50K in two weeks and with Ice Age on Saturday I told him I was going slow. He was going to go slow too. Well, we were sucked into the group of fasties and were running sub 8's. Then realized our error and backed off. And then went faster again. Finally I had to take a walk break. I couldn't talk, my side was aching..sheesh..heat acclimation is beginning. Eventually we finished in 42 minutes. A bit longer than usual for both of us. But that's OK, it was fun to be back out running with the group and it worked into my schedule perfectly. I suppose I should taper for Ice Age? Maybe on Friday.
Off to the baseball game and Troy's team won: 17-12. Oh yeah :)
